The other day, as I walked past a property in my neighbourhood. The light bulb line up at the entrance of their home peeked my attention. Tonnes of them. Oh so beautifully laid out – I said within myself. Then i thought – “they are not on now, but bet they light up beautifully when they go on at night” – Then I remembered our life as christians.

I know we quote that popular scripture every now and again – “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill top that can not be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” – Mathew 5: 14-16. – A powerful scripture indeed, but it is also one that too many people often run with, without actually taking time to acknowledge the one who powers it.Just like those beautifully laid out light bulbs at the front of my neighbour’s yard, that required the owner powering at the right time – so it is with the One who powers us.

Imagine, the owner flipping the switch; only to realize that some are broken, some are not lighting up as they should or that some are even missing? He would go the extra mile, to fix them, wouldn’t he? so they function as they should. We have many dreams, aspirations, goals and objectives as we walk through life, but a postured Christian at heart will rely on the master to not only pose as the light of the world but to shine in those moments when and where it matters. like those bulb lights, their moment is night time. It doesn’t take away the fact that being a holder of light is the reason they exist.

Trust God. Lean on Him. There is a time and season for everything. Use the quiet seasons to patiently grow, so that you shine so bright, no one has to question if you are really a light – and most importantly enjoy the gift of presence that is life. “For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure” – Philipians 2:13
